Membership & Benefits

Membership Review Process

Upon receiving a completed application, the IHA Secretariat reviews it for compliance with qualification criteria and notifies current members of its receipt. The review process includes the following steps.

  1. Exclusion of Applicants: Prospective members do not participate in sessions reviewing their applications. If present, they will be asked to leave during discussions.
  2. Motion for Approval: During the IHA Business agenda, the Chair will call for a motion to approve pending applications.
  3. Discussion: Once a motion is made and seconded, members may discuss the application, with each member given an opportunity to speak.
  4. Voting: Members vote to approve the application. If unanimous support is not evident or if requested by any member, the vote is conducted via secret ballot; otherwise, the Chair may allow an open vote. Approval requires a majority vote of members present.
  5. Time-Sensitive Applications: If a significant delay exists before the next in-person meeting, the Secretariat and Chair may circulate the application via email or arrange a virtual meeting to facilitate discussion and voting.
